3D SCANNING SERVICES
Castle Works Motorsports offers complete 3D scanning services. Whether your project requires a simple mesh file to 3D print, or you need a part completely reverse engineered with a CAD file that you can import directly to Solidworks or Fusion 360, we can provide you with the right solution. Available output file formats include .dae, .fbx, .ma, .obj, .ply, .stl, .txt, .wrl, .x3d, .x3dz, .zpr, .dxf, .iges, .step
Prototyping & 3D printing
3D scanners enable you to take a physical product, scan it into a digital format (e.g. the STL file format), and work with the digitized model to create prototypes that are then printed by 3D printers. The high level of precision the Peel 3 3D scanner greatly reduces the manual time required to create a solid model.
Reverse engineering & CAD creation
A very common challenge in the world of engineering and product design is reverse engineering a physical product that you do not have a CAD file. Using a 3D scanner that will capture the complex geometric characteristics of a given part is a great way to develop a CAD file when one is not available.
CFD/FEA
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation is commonly used for flight and wind tunnel testing. FEA (Finite Element Analysis) is often leveraged to predict how a given part or product will react when exposed to forces like heat, fluid, vibration, etc.
Castle Works Motorsports has made the Creaform Peel 3 scanner our go to tool for all our 3D scanning needs. Its accuracy, ease of use and portability made it the perfect choice for us.
Resolution .1mm (.003 in)
Accuracy 0.250 mm/m, up to 0.1 mm (0.003 in/ft, up to 0.004 in)
Output formats .dae, .fbx, .ma, .obj, .ply, .stl, .txt, .wrl, .x3d, .x3dz, .zpr, .dxf, .iges, .step
We can scan just about any size item from very small to an entire car. Contact us today for more information.
Our Process
Most objects can be scanned in our shop, but if you have a car or larger item that cannot be moved, we can travel to your site to perform the scanning process.
Cost of the scan is based on size and the type of file you wish to receive. Smaller items needing only a mesh file can generally be delivered in a day or less. If you are needing a CAD file those will generally take longer to process and depend on the complexity of the part.
Typical prices that include a mesh file:
Suspension Spindle - $200
Car Interior - $500
Complete Car body - $1000 - $2000 depending on size and detail needed.
If you are needing a CAD file that can be edited in programs such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360 , a quote will be provided based on the complexity of the part. This cost will be in addition to the cost of the mesh file.
